Your body doesn’t want you to be lean. Crazy right? It’s always in survival mode and having abs isn’t on your bodies agenda. As you consume fewer calories than your maintenance calories, your metabolism can adapt by slowing down to prevent weight loss. We call this metabolic adaptation. This can happen as someone diets down during a fat loss phase. As nutrition coaches we can pull some tricks from out of our hat to keep the process moving forward if you stall. The issue is when someone chronically under eats and over trains. Unfortunately, we see the second instance happen far too often. People end up not being able to lose weight on very low calories.
